Surgical Abortion (First Trimester)
Anaesthesia is required for a surgical abortion. Two varieties of surgical abortion exist:
A general anaesthetic, sedative, or local anaesthesia can be used during hoover aspiration:
gently suctions the pregnancy out.
This can be done under a local anaesthetic
for up to 14 weeks. Because this treatment has a shorter recovery period, you can drive away from the clinic sooner and leave unattended.
This can be done under general anaesthesia or with sedation (easy and groggy) for up to 15 weeks.
Abortion pill (Medical Abortion)
Take an abortion pill to medically end your pregnancy. You will receive the first tablet at your clinic consultation. Two days later, you will inject four more tablets at home. That day will see the release of the amniotic sac, which will indicate the end of the pregnancy. That day, you have to stay at home because going anywhere else will bring cramping and bleeding.
